Growing Zones
White Profusion Salvia is as beautiful a perennial as it is versatile. Packed with spires of long-lasting white blooms that repeat through midsummer against dark green foliage, it’s easy to grow in nearly any full sun location. It’s a magnet for hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies and other pollinators, is drought-tolerant, resists deer and rabbits, and makes a fantastic cut or dried flower. It’s even salt-tolerant, if you are gardening near the coast.
White Profusion is a hybrid of Salvia nemorosa, or Woodland Sage, a species native to Europe and parts of Asia, which accounts for the telltale spicy fragrance of its leaves and flowers which we love, but deer and rabbits apparently do not. This ornamental sage grows in a tight upright clump, perfect for a filler in a summer patio pot, or massed in painterly drifts in the garden with grasses, Monarda and sedums, Piet Oudolf-style. Oudolf says the spire shape is an ideal counterpoint for the more common rounded composite daisy-shape flowers. White Profusion would make a fantastic perennial for the cutting garden, a star in the moon garden, or a pollinator garden.
White Profusion Salvia Care
White Profusion Salvia loves full sun. It can take a bit of drought, but you’ll see the better rebloom and growth with consistent moisture. It’s adaptable to any soil pH, and would prefer average or fertile soil. Compost, aged cow manure, or slow release fertilizer in spring should be adequate for this resilient, long-bloomer.
Deadheading flowers will encourage renewed flushes of bloom, sometimes into early fall, though they will be progressively smaller. If plants become leggy or floppy, they may be cut back at any time to refresh the foliage.
White Profusion Salvia Spacing
A good space to allow for White Profusion is about 16 to 20 inches between plants.
