Yewtopia Plum Yew (Cephalotaxus harringtonia ‘Plania’) is a compact evergreen shrub valued for its lush, dark green, needle-like foliage and versatile landscape uses. With its slow to moderate growth habit and naturally tidy form, this shrub is an excellent choice for shady areas where many other evergreens struggle. Female plants may produce small, plum-like fruits if a male plant is nearby for pollination, adding seasonal interest.
Its dense texture and rich color make Yewtopia Plum Yew a standout as an accent, in groupings, or as a mass planting. It also works beautifully as a low-growing hedge, bringing structure and greenery to garden borders with very little maintenance required.
Yewtopia Plum Yew Care
Plant in moist, sandy, well-drained soil for best results. Water regularly during the establishment period and provide supplemental moisture in extreme heat. Once established, this shrub shows good drought tolerance. Yewtopia Plum Yew grows slowly, which means it requires little to no pruning to maintain its shape.
Yewtopia Plum Yew Growth & Spacing
This evergreen typically reaches 3–4 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide at maturity. For groupings or mass plantings, space plants 4–5 feet apart on center. When planting as a low hedge, space shrubs 3–4 feet apart for a dense, uniform look.
Why Grow Yewtopia Plum Yew?
-
Shade tolerant – thrives where many evergreens do not
-
Low maintenance – slow growth requires little pruning
-
Year-round color – evergreen foliage adds structure in all seasons
-
Versatile uses – excellent as an accent, hedge, or mass planting
For gardeners seeking an easy-care evergreen that excels in shade, Yewtopia Plum Yew is a reliable and elegant choice for any landscape.
