Abbotswood Potentilla is a bushy, upright perennial that puts on a lovely floral display from late spring until frost. The 1.5-inch 5-petal pure white flowers have yellow centers. This shrub is such a prolific bloomer that the 3- to 4-foot tall rounded shrub will be almost completely covered in flowers by summer. The flowers are contrasted by tiny, pinnate dark blue-green foliage. Potentilla fruticosa is hardy and low maintenance.
This shrub is a great fit in beds, borders, hedges, or screens. Abbotswood Potentilla will look lovely along a walkway or foundation wall as a mid-sized plant. The white flowers stand out against the dark foliage and make this beauty a wonderful addition to a mixed bed. Grow this plant as a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 8.
Abbotswood Potentilla Care
Abbotswood Potentilla needs full to partial sun, so select an area that receives at least 4 to 6 hours of light. This shrub has average water needs, so give it a drink when the top layer of soil dries out. Potentilla will need less water once the plant is acclimated. Rich, moist, but well-drained soil is preferred.
Trim back old branches after the flowers fade to promote new growth and more blooms during the next growing season. Feed the plant using balanced fertilizer in the spring or apply a layer of organic compost around the base of the plant to provide a nutritional boost.
Abbotswood Potentilla Spacing
Abbotswood Potentilla is an upright shrub that will grow 3to 4 feet tall and wide. Space plants 24 to 36 inches apart when creating a consistent planting.
