- Mature Spread 6 - 7 Feet
- Growing Zones 4 - 8
This rhododendron has it all! First you get two flower colors in one. Clusters of pink buds open up in mid-May to exhibit pure white blooms with pale yellow throats. All of this against dark, rich green broadleaf foliage on a vigorously growing plant suitable for even the most challenging temperatures as it does well in zones 4 to 8.
It is a broadleaf evergreen with a dense rounded form with few, if any, diseases or insects that have any impact on its success in the landscape. A low maintenance, heat and drought tolerant shrub once established which can be used as a foundation plant, or in a woodland setting that is reminiscent of its native home in the eastern U. S.
Album Rhododendron Care
Like most rhododendrons this one prefers an enriched, well-drained soil that is slightly on the acidic side. A mix of peat moss, cow manure and or compost incorporated into the planting site would do nicely. Planted in a sunny but partially shaded area would be preferable for this rhododendron. When choosing a planting site consider an area with dappled sunshine and you can’t go wrong.
To maintain its size and shape the rhododendron is best pruned immediately after flowering and requires no deadheading of the spent blooms. Water well into winter as rhododendrons leaves can be damaged due to desiccation.
Album Rhododendron Spacing
Reaching a height of 6 to 7 feet this rhododendron, planted in the proper location, would make a nice focal point or hedge. It would look fantastic planted en masse as an understory to pines or oaks.
