For an unusual, but stunning mix of color, try the All the Blues Butterfly Bush. A mix of Buddleja davidii Buzz™ 'Buzz Midnight', 'Buzz Sky Blue', and 'Buzz Lavender' in one container, this combination will produce an array of flower spikes from spring onwards. All the Blues Butterfly Bush is bound to draw attention and grows to around 3 feet tall.
Like other Butterfly bushes, All the Blues Butterfly Bush will attract all manner of pollinators but especially bees and butterflies. It is easy to grow and care for and needs little ongoing care once established. It is cold hardy and grows in USDA zones 5 to 10. Being deer resistant, this deciduous shrub is a go-to for rural locations. It is ideal for growing as a single specimen in a container or as a drift in a mixed border.
All the Blues Butterfly Bush Care
The All the Blues Butterfly Bush performs best planted in full sun, but can also tolerate partial shade. It prefers a moist, yet free-draining soil and can cope with most soil types. Water regularly until established, after which it can tolerate some dry conditions. Although not a heavy feeder, you can apply a slow-release, general-purpose fertilizer in early spring to give it a boost.
Deadheading faded flowers will help encourage new blooms to form over the growing season. For a neat appearance, you can prune lightly in early spring before new growth appears. Make angled cuts back to new buds.
All the Blues Butterfly Bush Spacing
In the right conditions, the All the Blues Butterfly Bush will reach 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. Plant on its own in a large container, or space plants 2 to 3 feet apart in a landscape.
