The stunning, deep pink-purple blooms of the Amelia Rose Azalea will certainly add a pop of color when they open in spring. Producing elaborate double flowers, the Rhododendron indica 'Amelia Rose' as it is also known grows to around 6 feet tall over time. Dark green foliage provides the perfect backdrop for its blooms to shine.

The Amelia Rose Azalea is a vigorous grower that develops a rounded and upright habit. Low maintenance once established, it is a versatile shrub with a multitude of uses. Use it to form a hedge, create a mass planting, or decorate a container as a specimen shrub. It is considered winter hardy in zones 7 to 9.

Amelia Rose Azalea Care

The Amelia Rose Azalea provides the best floral display when it is grown in partial or dappled shade. In southern climates, shade from the harsh afternoon sun is advisable. Plant it in acidic, fertile, and free-draining, yet moist soil for optimal growth. Water frequently the first year; after it is established, supplement rainfall when the top inch of soil is dry. Applying an ericaceous fertilizer in late winter or early spring will help maintain plant health and promote blooming.

Minimal pruning apart from removing dead or damaged branches is required. However, you can lightly trim it to size after the first flush of flowers has faded in spring.

Amelia Rose Azalea Spacing

When fully grown, the Amelia Rose Azalea can reach 7 feet tall and wide. Space each plant around 6 to 7 feet apart for a defined outline or closer together for a continuous planting.
