Who’d have thought there could be an improvement of Angelonia, already an all-star, upright annual for reliable flower power. Angelonia holds its own in containers or as a landscape plant. Welcome Angelface Cascade Blue, an angelonia with a relaxed habit, ready to improve options for hanging baskets and other containers. Fragrant, this sun-loving annual gets about 12 inches tall, with up to a 30-inch spread. Flowers drape over the edges of pots or scoot along as a seasonal groundcover from spring to a hard freeze.
Angelonia Angelface Cascade Blue can take the heat, is drought tolerant and can even handle wet feet. Some gardeners describe the flowers of angelonias as summer snapdragons and others say they look like orchids. Either way, it can be cut as a long-lasting flower for indoor enjoyment. Butterflies, bees and other pollinators enjoy regular visits to angelonia. Angelonia is deer resistant and is not bothered by diseases.
Angelface Cascade Blue Summer Snapdragon Care
Grow this plant in full sun (6-plus hours a day). Always use a high quality potting mix in containers. These are lightweight and formulated to aid drainage. No need to deadhead (pinch off spent flowers) to keep angelonia blooming. It’s always a good idea to fertilize annuals, whether in containers or in the ground. Always read and follow label directions. And although drought tolerant, most annuals bloom better when given adequate moisture. Angelonia would not do well grown indoors.
With a 30-inch spread and 12-inch height, it could be grown alone in an average 10- to 12-inch hanging basket or larger. Or it can be mixed with other annuals, such as verbena, petunia or other sun-lovers. Plants larger containers (14-plus inches) are generally placed closer together than they might be in the ground.
Angelface Cascade Blue Summer Snapdragon Spacing
In the ground, space the plants 15 to 18 inches center on center, where the center of one plant is 15 to 18 inches from the center of the next plant. This gives the effect of a seasonal groundcover with the plants just touching each other. Consider planting Angelface Cascade Blue angelonia in perennial beds to take the place of a plant that is out of season. Or plant as puddles of color among shrubs.
