The Artist® Pearl Flossflower or Ageratum leaves an impression by adding texture and visual interest to an outdoor space. Each plant grows about 8 to 12 inches tall and is covered in small white flowers with delicate floss-like petals. The blooms are a showstopper that will make this plant a favorite throughout the growing season. Flossflower plants continuously bloom from spring through the summer and into the fall.
Flossflowers are native to Central America, which makes them heat-tolerant. These mounding annuals are adaptable and can thrive in borders, containers, landscape beds, or mass plantings. Flossflowers have more to offer than just their striking good looks, and they also welcome bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to an outdoor space.
Artist® Pearl Flossflower Care
Routine feeding starting in the spring and throughout the growing season will ensure the Flossflower continues to push out new growth and blooms. This plant is generally low maintenance and does not even require deadheading. New flowers push past existing flowers as the plant grows, burying the spent flowers within the foliage. If the plant appears overgrown, it can be cleaned up with a slight pruning, but it is not usually necessary. The Flossflower flourishes with part to full sun, and it has average water and soil needs.
Flossflowers grow as a perennial in USDA growing zones 9 through 10. It is grown as an annual in all other areas, and the plant dies back with the first hard frost. Flossflower plants can overwinter indoors; however, it thrives in hot temperatures, so the plant must be kept in a warm area to thrive.
Artist® Pearl Flossflower Spacing
Plant Flossflowers in the ground about 10 to 12 inches apart so the plants have enough space, but still create a full and lush appearance. A 12-inch planter can support 2 to 3 plants while allowing each plant the room it needs to grow.
