Autumn Angel Encore Azalea covers its glossy green foliage with pure white flowers from spring into fall. The single blooms reach about 3 inches across, giving this compact evergreen a clean, bright look near entries, patios, and foundation beds. Rhododendron 'Robleg' PP15227 matures around 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide, a useful size for low hedges, grouped plantings, and containers. Our favorite use is beside darker evergreen shrubs, where the white flowers appear especially crisp in morning light.
This reblooming Encore selection flowers in spring, then cycles into additional bloom during summer and fall when light, moisture, and nutrition are steady. Autumn Angel Encore Azalea keeps a dense evergreen presence through winter in Zones 7-10, with best bud set from 4 to 6 hours of direct sun. The dwarf habit is compact and rounded, and the slow growth rate makes it manageable in smaller spaces. Use it along walkways, in front of taller shrubs, around porch steps, or repeated through a bed for a bright white flowering pattern across the season.
Autumn Angel Encore Azalea Care
Plant Autumn Angel Encore Azalea in light shade to full sun, with 4 to 6 hours of direct sun supporting the strongest rebloom. Morning sun with afternoon protection is ideal in hot climates. Use rich, well-drained acidic soil with a preferred pH of about 5.5 to 6.5.
Water deeply after planting and keep the root zone evenly moist through the first year, especially during summer heat. Established plants become more drought tolerant, though flower production is better when the soil stays lightly moist and drains freely. Fertilize after the spring bloom with a slow-release azalea, camellia, or acid-loving plant fertilizer, making any second summer feeding before August. Mulch with pine bark or pine straw to help protect the shallow roots and conserve soil moisture.
Prune Autumn Angel Encore Azalea immediately after the spring flowering period if shaping is needed. Shorten tall shoots back inside the body of the shrub to keep the plant dense and rounded. Avoid late-season pruning because flower buds form ahead of the next bloom cycle, and give container plants winter protection near the cold edge of its range.
Autumn Angel Encore Azalea Spacing
Space Autumn Angel Encore Azalea 3 feet apart for a low hedge or mass planting, and 4 feet apart when each plant should develop as a separate rounded shrub. For containers, use a pot at least 16 wide with drainage holes and an acidic potting mix made for azaleas, camellias, or rhododendrons. Potted azaleas dry faster in warm weather, so check moisture often and water when the upper few inches of mix begin to dry.
For companion planting, pair Autumn Angel Encore Azalea with camellia, gardenia, pieris shrubs, or sweetspire in acidic, well-drained beds with morning sun or bright filtered light. Fothergilla adds spring flowers and fall color nearby, and boxwoods can frame the planting with steady evergreen structure. In containers, bacopa, lobelia, and pansies make good seasonal partners because they appreciate regular moisture and grow well in the same gentle light used for reblooming azaleas.
