The sassy pop of color in this Balmy Purple Bee Balm is exactly what your garden needs to stand out from the one next door. In a compact, dwarf fashion these beautiful purple flowers bloom late spring and into the summer. With a long stem, these blooms could even be in a cut flower garden. Bold, purple blooms would add a sought after texture to bouquets and flower arrangements.
This perennial flower is hardy in zones four through ten. It has many positive attributes, beginning with wildlife. Butterflies and hummingbirds in particular, flock to this bee balm for the nectar. Alternatively, it’s resistant to both deer and rabbits.
Balmy Purple Bee Balm Care
This perennial prefers average soil, but is drought tolerant. It can thrive in moist, well drained soil. Full sun is best, though partial shade is also satisfactory. This plant is truly low maintenance, and only needs to be watered if a prolonged dry stretch is observed, or if it’s overly dried out within a container. This summer bloomer is an easy addition to any landscape.
Spent blooms should be pruned back. This perennial flower can be trimmed to the ground in the Fall, after a hard freeze.
Balmy Purple Bee Balm Spacing
These flowers grow 10 to 12 inches tall. They should be spaced 12 to 14 inches apart, as they grow densely, but upright.
