Re-blooming Plants Provide Flowers Spring to Fall!
Plants Included In Blind Love Annual Combination
Here is where you get to play with color on color combinations from the Supertunia and Superbena collections. Now, you finally get to prove once and for all that love is not blind when it comes to combining colorful annuals and creating a one of a kind display everyone will love. The white on green contrast of the Superbena Whiteout, where even the buds create an interesting texture and color variation; the beautiful magenta pink flowers of the Supertunia Royal Magenta; and the white with dark pink stripes of the Supertunia Lovie Dovie to tie the other two together; create an outstanding presentation that all will enjoy.
Blind Love Annual Combination Care
You are probably already familiar with the Supertunia series of hybrid annuals, improved varieties with many color combinations that take the heat and keep on blooming all season long. They love well drained soil and thrive with just a little liquid love from you in the form of a water soluble fertilizer every couple of weeks since they are nonstop bloomers. Watering only when the verbena needs water should be sufficient. Deadheading is not required here as the spent blooms will drop off naturally.
Superbena, however, has a little bit more fussy care regimen as you need to water it about one inch a week, and fertilize it with a well balanced water soluble fertilizer for best bloom. They, too, will bloom all season long with just a little intervention from you to provide the optimal growing environment for them. Deadheading is not required with Superbena, but if you get impatient for new flowers, pinch off the old and a new one won’t be far behind. All three annuals will benefit from a shearing once or twice in the growing season to keep them from getting leggy and make them more compact.
Blind Love Annual Combination Ideas
Choose a 12 inch planter for these lovely spillers, either a hanging basket or a patio container will work. Place the Royal Magenta petunia in the center, and the Whiteout verbena and Lovie Dovie petunia each on opposing sides (see diagram). Give plants up to 12 inches of spacing for the five plant arrangement in the 4 ¼ inch pot. Use a larger planter for the 8 inch pot for more room to grow. Once the plants have started their beautiful trailing habit, interweave the branches to achieve the ‘all over’ look that is depicted for the best display.
Superbena and Supertunia do best when in containers so that you can control the amount of moisture as they do not tolerate soggy soil. They also make wonderful landscape plants for your garden beds and borders. If you do not have good draining, loose soil, however, consider creating a raised bed to help provide them with the best possible growing environment.
