Growing Zones
The Bloom-A-Thon Pink Double Azalea by Proven Winners ColorChoice has large double pink flowers that emerge in early April. Once those flowers begin to fade, a light pruning encourages another round of blooming that lasts until the first hard freeze. That gives this plant over 5 months of bloom time!
The foliage of these azaleas is dark green and is semi-evergreen. That means the outer leaves stay on the plant year-round, but the inner leaves drop in the winter. So this shrub has year round color, perfect for planters, hedges, and mass plantings.
The plant is disease resistant and easy to care for. It also is heat resistant and will produce flowers even during the hottest southern summer days. It can also tolerate full sun conditions and still perform well.
Bloom-A-Thon Pink Double Azalea Care
These plants do best in well drained and nutrient rich soil. Plant in a location that receives at least 4 hours of sunlight. Water at least once a week, however during hotter and drier periods it may require more than weekly. Do not fertilize after mid-July. For locations in growing zone 7, do not plant in late fall, because the shrubs need time to prepare for winter.
We recommend applying a layer of mulch 2-3 inches thick. That will help retain moisture and protect shallow roots.
Pruning Bloom-A-Thon Pink Double Azaleas should be done each year after the initial flowers begin to fade in early summer. A light trim around the entire plant will encourage a new round of growth and blooms to form. These new flowers will last all the way until the first hard freeze.
Bloom-A-Thon Pink Double Azalea Spacing
These shrubs should be planted 3 to 4 feet apart, center on center. If you wish to grow a flowering evergreen hedge, you can space these 30 inches apart, center on center.
