The Bloom-A-Thon White Azalea from Proven Winners ColorChoice is a reblooming shrub that sets it apart from other typical azaleas. The plant blooms in the spring around April for 4 to 6 weeks. Then blooms again in the summer and fall for another 12 to 16 weeks until the first frost. The foliage is semi-evergreen, which means the leaves on the outer edge of the branches stay green year round, but the leaves located in the inner part of the shrub drop in the winter.
This shrub is not only beautiful for more of the year, it is also disease and heat resistant. Even the hottest summer days do not prevent this beautiful plant from producing large white flowers.
Use these small shrubs in mass plantings for a terrific show for over 20 weeks. We also like planting these bushes in garden planters due to their year-round color of green foliage and white flowers. We’ve also seen these planted as short border hedges, which are great around landscaping or garden paths.
Bloom-A-Thon White Azalea Care
Plant these shrubs in an area that receives at least 4-6 hours of sunlight a day. However, these plants can handle full sunlight even on the hottest southern summer days. If you live in zone 7, avoid late season plantings because the azaleas need time to prepare for winter.
Apply a layer of mulch 2-3 inches deep around the base of the plant to help retain moisture and protect the shallow roots from harsh weather conditions. Do not fertilize these plants after mid-July.
Pruning Bloom-A-Thon White Azaleas should be done each year after the spring bloom has started to fade. This will encourage the plant to produce new growth, which will include another round of blooms that will last late into fall.
Bloom-A-Thon White Azalea Spacing
Plant these shrubs at least 3 feet apart, center on center. If you are creating a short garden path border you can plant 30 inches apart, center on center, for a flowering evergreen hedge.
