Salvia nemorosa ‘Blue By You’, commonly known as Meadow Sage, is an easy-to-care-for productive workhorse in your garden. It features intense, deep violet-blue flowers throughout the growing season. Plants will form a bushy clump of sage-green leaves with a mounding habit, reaching 20-22 inches tall and wide. When the long, deep-purple flower spikes are spent, give it a trim and it will eagerly bloom for you again and again!
Blue By You Salvia has exceptional winter hardiness and will grow in zones 5 - 9 and down to -30 degrees F. It’s deer and rabbit resistant, frost and heat tolerant, and attractive to hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Blue By You makes an excellent deep-purple accent in cut-flower arrangements.
Blue By You Salvia Care
Plant this salvia in a full-sun area in your landscape. Blue By You tolerates a range of soil pH and soil types; however, it isn’t so fond of wet feet, so keep it in a dryer location and it will thrive. Clip off spent flowers to encourage another flush of blooms.
Use a bloom-boosting fertilizer once a month starting in early summer and continue through the growing season to encourage flowering. Clumps can be easily divided in early spring every few years. This salvia grows well in pots due to its compact size and eventually can be transferred to the landscape where it has plenty of space to grow.
Blue By You Salvia Spacing
To create a striking display of drifts or groupings, plant these salvias 20-24” apart. Blue By You has great color, texture, and structure, so it can be used in patio containers, or repeated in mass plantings to create a colorful edging or border. This cultivar has strong stems and a bold architectural shape that complements many styles of gardens.
