The fragrant foliage of the Blue Wonder Catmint is a nice treat for cats and a lovely addition to a landscape. Upright stems have evenly spaced foliage that is a gray-green hue. Trumpet-shaped lavender flowers are larger than many other cultivars and grow in clusters near the top of the stems. The flowers continuously bloom from May through July, and deadheading will encourage more blooms.
This catmint has a mounded growth habit and will easily spread and cover a large area, making this plant an excellent groundcover. The flowers and soft foliage also look striking in beds or borders. Cats like the scented foliage, so plant in an accessible area. Blue Wonder Catmint is a tough plant that is drought-tolerant, deer-resistant and attracts butterflies and other pollinators. This plant is a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.
Blue Wonder Catmint Care
Full sun and rich soil that is moist and well-drained supports healthy growth. Wait for the top few inches of soil to dry out before watering. While this plant can handle dry conditions, consistently water it during a drought to promote healthy growth. Apply organic compost around the base or give the plant an application of balanced fertilizer in the spring.
Cut back the stems by one-third after flowering is complete if the plant is leggy. All greenery can be trimmed back in the late fall or early spring.
Blue Wonder Catmint Spacing
Blue Wonder Catmint is a spreading plant that does not get very tall. The upright stems will reach 12 to 15 inches high and 14 to 20 inches wide. Space plants 14 to 20 inches apart for a dense planting.
