If you have ample space in need of greenery and beautiful blooms, then the Carousel Mountain Laurel is your plant. This stunner boasts cup-shaped blooms in a shade of pink with purple bands. The flowers open in May and grow on burgundy stems. The glossy leaves are dark green on top with a lighter green on the underside. This plant is a broadleaf evergreen, and while the blooms will die back, the hardy foliage will stay put year-round.
This is a dense, upright shrub with a rounded shape. Mountain Laurel is a relatively slow-growing plant, but it can grow very large. Feature this beauty in mass plantings or borders. Since the greenery lasts all year, use this shrub to cover a fence or foundation wall.
Carousel Mountain Laurel Care
Plant the Carousel Mountain Laurel in part shade; although this beauty can live in full sun, it may have limited growth in a sunnier location. Rich, slightly acidic soil that is moist but well-drained will support this shrub. This plant prefers damp conditions, so water when the top few inches dry out. Mountain Laurel is drought-tolerant once established. Feed this plant in the spring using an acid fertilizer, like one formulated for azaleas and rhododendrons to promote plenty of blooms.
Prune this shrub to maintain the shape as needed after the flowers die back. This is a slow-growing plant that generally does not need much trimming. Mountain Laurel is hardy and can handle a rejuvenating cut if the plant becomes too large or leggy. Plant in an area protected from high winds that can damage the branches.
Carousel Mountain Laurel Spacing
Carousel Mountain Laurel is an upright plant with a rounded shape that will reach 8 to 10 feet tall and wide. Space plants 4 to 6 feet apart to create a very full and dense planting.
