Foxgloves are standard in any Cottage garden. Dalmatian Peach Foxglove a lovely shade of fresh peach that would be a great contrast or compliment to any of the perennials planted in your garden border. The whorls of thick leaves form a sturdy base for the gracefully tall flower stems. Delicate peach blooms with orange speckled throats turn to cream as they age on the flower stem. As a cut flower, foxglove lasts for quite awhile.
Foxglove tolerates a wide range of hardiness zones. In the lower zones of 3-6, the plant will die back completely to the ground. Often in zones 7 and 8 the leaves at the base of the plant will stay green all winter, even with a light dusting of snow. Deer resistant and also resistant to most diseases. Foxglove Dalmatian Peach is an unbeatable low maintenance plant.
Dalmatian Peach Foxglove Care
Digitalis prefer soil that is neutral to acidic with a pH of 5.0- 6.5. They also like a moist but free draining site that has average fertilization. An annual feeding of a slow release, balanced fertilizer will keep these gems producing the giant blooms that they are known for. Foxglove will do fine in a part to full shaded site. They do a very good job of brightening up the back of a shady woodland border.
Regular deadheading of foxglove will keep this perennial producing blooms longer. There is not much left to cut back in the fall. Cutting off of any damaged and dead foliage the following spring is usually all this plant needs to look good. The birds like the seed heads of foxglove and will help to spread them around for you. Any unwanted seedlings are easily weeded out in the spring.
Dalmatian Peach Foxglove Spacing
Mass plantings of Foxglove are the most impressive way to display this one. Spacing should be 12 inches on the center of the plants. Make sure to put these giants at the back of a garden border. The height of the bloom stem can be from 36-42 inches.
