Growing Zones
It’s hard to look away once you lay your eyes on the Dark Night Rose. The outer petals of the cup-shaped blooms are a deep, velvety red. As the 4-inch wide flowers mature and the petals fold open, the creamy, yellow, inner petals are exposed, giving the flower a dramatic and unique contrast. The flowers of the Rosa Dark Night™ are slightly fragrant and bloom from late spring through fall.
The Dark Night Rose has a Hybrid Tea form that features one flower per stem, making them excellent cut flowers. The dark green glossy foliage gives the rose bush a full look and complements the unique flowers. Feature the Dark Night Rose in beds or borders, or add vibrant color to a porch or patio space by growing this bush in a container. The Dark Night Rose is disease resistant and heat tolerant for added convenience. This rose bush grows in zones 5 through 9.
Dark Night™ Rose Care
Select a spot with full sun and rich soil that is moist but promotes drainage. This rose bush is not picky about soil pH and can grow in alkaline, neutral, or acidic soil. Water new plants weekly during the first growing season. Established plants need water during a dry period.
The Dark Night Rose has an upright, bushy growth habit and an excellent natural form, but it still requires pruning. Remove crossed or old canes in the spring. Shape the plant and remove about one-third of the growth to encourage new, dense growth.
Dark Night™ Rose Spacing
A mature Dark Night Rose will reach 4 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Space shrubs 4 feet apart when creating a hedge or border, or allow more space to feature the Dark Night Rose as a focal point or specimen planting.
