You might have heard that quince shrubs have long, sharp thorns, but Double Take Pink Quince (Chaenomeles speciosa 'Pink Storm') is thornless. That's not the only reason you should do a double take when you see this shrub. It's the large double flowers that will snap your head around. The deep pink floral display begins in spring, making this versatile shrub look much like a camellia. Another bonus? Deer typically ignore quince.

At a height of nearly 5 feet and a 4-foot spread, Double Take Pink Quince is a pretty and colorful addition to mixed borders or hedges, or gardens for cut flowers. It's also drought and heat tolerant, so you can let an established Double Take go for short periods without water. The blooms will last most of the spring where this plant can grow — in zones 5 through 9. The flowers do not produce fruit.

Double Take Pink Quince Care

Plant Double Take Pink Quince in part to full sun for best flowering. The plant is much tougher than its delicate flowers indicate. Applying controlled-release fertilizer in spring can help it grow and bloom. Feel free to cut flowers for indoor arrangements. Then, just prune lightly to shape your quince after it is done flowering.

Double Take Pink Quince Spacing

Add colorful drama to your landscape with one or more Double Take Pink Quince as a garden highlight. If you plant a group or hedge of quinces, space the plant about 4 to 5 feet apart from center to center.
