Growing Zones
The Enduring Red™ Crape Myrtle adds spectacular color to a landscape. Scarlet flower buds burst open to reveal ruffled blooms, which grow in clusters for an even more eye-catching appearance. This Crape Myrtle starts to bloom in early summer and continues to rebloom through fall. The Lagerstroemia hybrid 'PIILAG B5' also boasts some showy foliage. The glossy leaves are red to start and fade into a deep, dark green.
The Enduring Red™ Crape Myrtle makes a lovely specimen or showy hedge. Plant this shrub along a porch or deck to divide the space without blocking sightlines. Grow this Crape Myrtle in a container for more flexible placement options on a patio or balcony. The foliage resists powdery mildew for added convenience.
Enduring Red™ Crape Myrtle Care
For best results, plant Enduring Red™ in full sun and in fertile, moist, and well-drained soil. Young plants need water several times a week, while established plants need water once weekly. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring before new growth appears.
Apply a layer of mulch around the base in the fall to protect the roots from cold temperatures. Prune Enduring Red™ Crape Myrtle in late winter or early spring before the shrub wakes up from dormancy.
Enduring Red™ Crape Myrtle Spacing
The Enduring Red™ Crape Myrtle reaches 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. Create a hedge by spacing plants 4 to 5 feet apart.
