Like the Sun, Fiery Meadow Mama® Coneflower is brilliant, glorious, golden, and intense. Similar to a daisy, this wildflower features large, sunshine-yellow petals, brushed with crimson at their bases, that surround a conspicuous burgundy cone. Its brilliant, single-ray florets are supported by wiry, pear-green stems and delicate lance-shaped foliage. This glorious cut flower brightens up borders, beds, containers, and bouquets. Enjoy its golden beauty inside throughout winter by drying the flowers for display. Left alone to seed throughout the winter, this fiery mama, also known as Echinacea 'Fiery Meadow Mama', provides interest all year long.
Finding Fiery Meadow Mama® Coneflower unfavorable to their palates, deer won’t bother this wildflower. This herbaceous perennial’s intense color, nectar, and seeds are beloved by bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and songbirds. Growing compact, upright, and with a medium growth rate, this gorgeous burst of sunlight grows to a maximum height of 20 to 24 inches and spread of 18 to 24 inches. Cold hardy in zones 3 to 9, this versatile cut flower is drought tolerant, heat tolerant, and humidity tolerant. This easy-to-grow and low-maintenance perennial is a perfect option to add a vibrant splash of sunshine to gardens and containers.
Fiery Meadow Mama® Coneflower Care
Fiery Meadow Mama® Coneflower prefers moist, acidic, well-draining soil. To lower the pH of your existing soil, add peat moss. Find a location that also gets full to partial sun and plant this herbaceous perennial in the summer or fall. While this wildflower can tolerate low moisture, it will do best with about an inch of water per week. Water when the top inch of soil is dry. A low-maintenance selection, Fiery Meadow Mama® Coneflower does not normally need fertilizing; however, if your soil is lacking a lot of nutrients, you can apply a 10-10-10 fertilizer or layer of organic compost in early spring.
Deadhead spent flowers during the blooming season. If hoping to provide food for the birds during the winter, leave the spent foliage and cut it back to an inch or so high during late winter / early spring.
Fiery Meadow Mama® Coneflower Spacing
Whether grown as a specimen or en masse, Fiery Meadow Mama® Coneflower will draw eyes to its striking bicolored petals. Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart. Add companion plants such as bee balm, coral bells, coreopsis, hyssop, phlox, and salvia to create lovely cut-flower beds.
