The Golden Sunset™ Indiangrass is a lovely ornamental grass that is a vigorous grower. The olive green foliage of the Sorghastrum nutans is tall and slender and gently arches. The foliage is complemented by yellow flowers that bloom in late summer and have a cloud-like look. The flowers bloom on tall stems that stand over the leaves. 

Use this grass to introduce color and texture to a landscape. This clump-forming grass can anchor a bed or create a border. As a native plant, the Golden Sunset™ Indiangrass is easy to maintain and does not require much care. This plant can quickly spread and overtake an area, so you may want to remove the flowers before the plant self-seeds. Grow this grass as a perennial in zones 3 through 9.

Golden Sunset™ Indiangrass Care

Once established, Golden Sunset™ Indiangrass is drought tolerant and will only need water during a dry period for continued growth. Plant it in full to partial sun in average, well-drained soil. Golden Sunset™ Indiangrass is not a heavy feeder; an annual dose of balanced fertilizer each spring is enough to support growth.

Remove dead or damaged growth as needed. Trim the foliage back to 6 to 12 inches tall in late winter or early spring.

Golden Sunset™ Indiangrass is a clump-forming ornamental grass that stands 4 to 6 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart to create a dense mass planting.
