The Grass-Leaved Goldenrod is a lovely perennial that features tiny flowers that bloom in flat-top clusters known as inflorescences. The dainty yellow flowers are so numerous that they have a cloud-like appearance from mid-summer through fall. Also known as Solidago graminifolia, this goldenrod has a bushy, branched form covered in narrow, medium-green foliage.

Feature this plant in beds or borders to give the space a meadow vibe. Use it to create a vibrant mass planting or conceal a foundation wall. The Grass-Leaved Goldenrod is native to North America, so after this plant has acclimated, it will thrive with little attention. Pollinators like bees and butterflies enjoy the flowers. Grow the Grass-Leaved Goldenrod as a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 9.

Grass-Leaved Goldenrod Care

Plant Grass-Leaved Goldenrod in full sun in average-to-poor soil with good drainage. Plants grown in rich soil may become leggy and overgrown. Established plants can be sustained by rainfall, but water the plants during a dry spell for best performance. Goldenrod plants are not heavy feeders, and a thin layer of organic mulch will sustain the plant.

Deadheading the plant will promote more blooms. Goldenrod is a prolific self-seeder and can quickly overtake a landscape. For this reason, many gardeners remove the flowers as soon as they start to fade. Cutting the plants back promotes a bushier growth habit and a full plant.

Grass-Leaved Goldenrod Spacing

Grass-Leaved Goldenrod has an upright, bushy growth habit. Plants stand 3 to 4 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet wide. Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart to create a dense mass planting.
