- Unique foliage for a statement plant in the garden!
Who needs blooms with foliage like this? If you are looking for a showstopper for shade, look no further. Raspberry Moon Caladium will pump up the drama in your sun-challenged spaces. Each bold spade-shaped leaf is an ever-fascinating explosion of color, with red, pink, white and green swirling and splashing like river currents.
With an upright habit to about 20 inches high, Raspberry Moon makes a great thriller in containers, or as a featured tropical accent in garden beds and borders. It also makes a great houseplant.
Heart to Heart® Raspberry Moon Caladium Care
Caladium are tubers, so plant with the pointed end up, about two inches deep in soil. Outdoors, caladiums prefer part to full shade exposure and soak up heat and humidity. They do best in temperatures over 65 degrees in evenly moist but not wet soil. Cool, soggy soils make them unhappy, so planting in pots or raised beds with good drainage in a hot protected spot will help warm up the soil faster in cooler summer regions. You’d think you might need a lot of fertilizer to support all that bodacious foliage and color, but actually, they thrive with regular applications of fertilizer diluted to ¼ to ½ strength.
Indoors, a sunny to partly sunny windowsill or sunroom suits Caladium best, maintaining temperatures over 65 degrees. Keep the humidity up with a pebble tray, frequent misting, or clustering with other plants. Keep soil as moist as a wrung-out sponge. Fertilize regularly with a ¼- strength fertilizer.
Note: Caladiums can be an irritant if ingested.
Heart to Heart® Raspberry Moon Caladium Spacing
At her fullest, Raspberry Moon can grow to about 14 inches wide, so a spacing of ten – 14 inches is ideal in the ground or in containers. Plant tuber two inches deep in soil, with the pointed end up.
