This flower gives nothing but warm smiles and good vibes. Heat it Up® Scarlet Blanket Flower Gaillardia hybrid is the perfect summer flower that shines so bright! Also known as the blanket flower, Gaillardia has gorgeous orange flowers that are highlighted with a dash of golden yellow on the outer edge of the petals. The bloom time is from spring to well into the fall. Its green foliage stands proud and creates a lush mounding habit. Medium in height, this plant grows 12 to 24 inches in height and can spread 18 to 36 inches in length.

It is a US native wildflower cultivated to display the best of its abilities in both strength and beauty. It is heat and drought tolerant, disease and deer resistant, and has long-lasting Fall interest. When creating containers use Gaillardia as a filler. It is sure to attract pollinator friends like bees and butterflies. Imagine a mass of blanket flowers creating a tapestry throughout the landscape, or imagine it hanging from a porch balcony welcoming you home.

Heat it Up® Scarlet Blanket Flower Care

Gaillardia has so much to love. It is well adapted to poor soil conditions that are low in fertility. Little to any fertilizer is necessary. Just make sure that this plant has well-draining and relatively moist soil. Once established, it can tolerate periods of drought. If spent flowers and stems are trimmed back it does clean up nicely, but deadheading is not necessary. The lazy gardener approach is ideal. This plant will still produce an abundance of reblooming flowers and still, look amazing.

Heat it Up® Scarlet Blanket Flower is a short-lived perennial in zones 8 to 11. For the rest of the colder zones, typically the blanket flower is categorized as an annual. Gaillardia will bloom from planting until frost. Heavily mulching in landscapes may help to overwinter Gaillardia, but it is not full-proof.

Heat it Up® Scarlet Blanket Flower Spacing

Space the blanket flower 18 to 36 inches apart in landscape plantings. Twelve-inch hanging baskets are preferred. Use a 14-inch container when planting combination pots. Leave at least 6 inches or more between plants when spacing Gaillardia in containers.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
