Seen most often in bouquets, the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily is a beauty that can keep providing blooms through the summer. With long, lemony yellow flowers dashed in pinks and browns, the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily (Alstroemeria hybrid) is a sturdy dwarf variety, growing in 12-18 inch bushy clumps with upright stems. Perennial to zones 8-10, the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily can grow in a part to full sun, allowing it to be an excellent addition to patio planters or complement others in a sunny pollinator garden. By cutting back the growth once flowers fade, you may even see a second bloom.
The Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily is low maintenance, requiring little more than regular watering and plenty of morning sun. Because this perennial is sensitive to drying out, it may be best to provide some afternoon shade in hotter regions. The Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily is deer resistant and non toxic to dogs, making it an ideal addition to a woodland garden while also being pet friendly.
Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily Care
Peruvian Lilies do best when provided with regular moisture, so it is important to plant them in a spot where they can be easily watered. To plant, dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball. Provide the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily with high-quality, well-draining soil. Add a layer of mulch around this plant to help the soil retain moisture. Fertilize the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily once a week when blooming with a bloom-boosting fertilizer to encourage vigorous flowering.
Because the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily is winter hardy to zone 8, it may not come back after the winter in some regions. Bring any potted plants into a protected garage or basement in colder regions. As a dwarf variety, the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily does not require much pruning to keep it compact, though pruning back old blooms may help it rebloom.
Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily Spacing
Plant the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily 12-18 inches away from other plants to allow it room to spread. As a border plant or when mass planting, space the Inca Sundance Peruvian Lily plants closer together to allow clumps to spread faster. When choosing a container, be sure to pick a larger pot with drainage holes.
