Let Invincibelle Garnetta® Smooth hydrangea be your cheerleader. Hydrangea arborescens displays beautiful hues of ruby red to powder puff pink flowers atop dark green glossy foliage. Expect this dreamy pompom bloom to flower later than most hydrangeas in the Invincibelle series. It can be admired 3 to 4 weeks longer and expect continuous blooms from Summer into Fall.
This North American native is deciduous and has naturalized in Central and SouthEastern United States. The branches are strong, levitating each bloom with pride, without drooping to the ground like other hydrangeas. This shrub is low growing and compact, only reaching 2 ½ feet in stature. Petite shrubs work well in perennial gardens, especially as a low hedge. Cluster these shrubs together and create a massively amazing pink spectacle. Invigorate a small patio container to be the thriller display.
Invincibelle Garnetta® Hydrangea Care
This hydrangea is easy to care for. Plant it in a full to part sun area. Morning sun with afternoon shade is the most ideal lighting. This shrub is adaptable to a variety of soils. The key to success is to apply 2 to 3 inches of mulch around its base. This helps to ensure that the roots stay cool and do not dry out. Spring is the best time to apply an annual application of fertilizer or compost to keep blooms growing strong.
Hydrangeas can be tricky when pruning but the key is to know what type of hydrangea you have. Particularly for hydrangea arborescens, this plant will bloom on new wood. Once new growth emerges, prune back the older wood. Cut back the whole shrub to about â…“ to keep the growth more compact and less leggy.
Invincibelle Garnetta® Hydrangea Spacing
These smaller, more compact shrubs don’t need that much room. Space plants 2 ½ feet apart from each other. When mass planting, group plants in drifts and staggered rows. Odd numbers like 3, 5, and 7, etc. are typically more visually pleasing to the eye.
