Add Kelos® Fire Yellow Celosia to your summer bedding plants and watch them light up the whole garden. The bright, clear yellow color is a great contrast for pastel flowers or other primary colors in your landscape. Large, feathery spikes of flowers rise above deep green foliage, giving this plant a substantial presence. Kelos® Fire Cockscombs are the perfect compact size for filling open spots in planters or replacing early spring blooming bulbs in a perennial border.
Celosias are remarkably drought tolerant and grow as tender perennials in USDA zones 10-11. The large flower spikes are ideal for adding a thriller element to a planter with other seasonal plants. When planted in large groups, Kelos® Fire Yellow Cockscomb makes an impressive and ultra-low maintenance ground cover for hard-to-plant, sunny spots such as along a walkway or driveway.
Kelos® Fire Yellow Celosia Care
Kelos® Kire Yellow Celosia is an ideal annual for plant-it-and-forget-it maintenance. Plant these bright and cheerful plants in at least 6 hours of direct sun and in well-draining soil that is moderately fertile. Deadhead spent flowers to keep plants neat while also encouraging more bud development. Fertilize with a liquid seaweed or fish feed every 2-3 weeks to maintain bright color and healthy foliage.
Celosia blooms for months until the first freeze of the season. Container-grown plants can be moved indoors over the winter, but growth and blooming will slow. Bring plants indoors as the nighttime temperatures fall to 50 degrees F, and place them in the brightest part of your house. A south-facing window is ideal and may allow for more flowering late into the fall. Reduce watering to once every 7-10 days and stop fertilizing until the spring. In spring, cut back any dead top growth and place the plant back outside when nighttime temperatures are reliably over 50 degrees F.
Kelos® Fire Yellow Celosia Spacing
The mounded and compact shape of Kelos® Cockscomb quickly grows to a mature height and width of 12-18 inches. Space multiple plants 12 inches apart, center on center, in a garden bed for a dense ground cover effect. Grow individual plants in containers with plenty of drainage and a diameter of at least 10 inches.
