Growing Zones
For some late-season interest, you will be hard-pressed to beat the colorful Kickin® Purple Aster. Blooming from late summer into the fall, the Kickin® Purple Aster develops vivid violet blooms with a contrasting yellow center. With a compact size of around 2 feet tall, this aster is a welcome addition in any garden.
The Kickin® Purple Aster forms mounds of fine green foliage that is later covered with a mass of blooms from August onwards. It is known to attract butterflies but thankfully not rabbits and grows well in zones 5 to 9. Ideal for adding late color to the borders, Kickin® Purple is also well suited to growing in a pot.
Kickin® Purple Aster Care
For the best flowering display, plant the Kickin® Purple Aster in full sun. This aster prefers a moderately fertile, moist, but free-draining soil. Avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot. In poor soils, you can apply a slow-release, balanced fertilizer in the spring to give the plant a boost.
Deadheading the spent flowers will encourage new blooms to form. In late fall, cut the plant back to just a few inches above soil level.
Kickin® Purple Aster Spacing
The Kickin® Purple Aster can grow to a final size of 2 feet tall and wide. To create a block of color, group several plants together, spaced 24 to 30 inches apart.
