Add Lobelia Lucia Dark Blue (Lobelia erinus) to your garden to add a dash of that hard to find blue colored flowers to your garden or container. The small, thin leaves of the green foliage will be mostly hidden when this plant is in full bloom in the spring and summer. Its mounded shape will grow 6 to 12 inches high with a 12 to 24-inch spread. Lobelia Lucia Dark Blue will grow best in part to full sun conditions.
This award-winning plant will bloom continuously throughout the growing season in the ground or in the spiller role in a container garden. It will trail 24 inches over the top of the container or window box. The flowers will attract birds and butterflies. Lobelia are deer resistant and are great annuals for areas with heavy deer populations.
Laguna Dark Blue Lobelia Care
If you’re growing this plant in a container, allow the soil surface to dry out between waterings and make sure the pot has a drainage hole. Lobelia does not like wet feet. Lobelia Lucia Dark Blue will continue to bloom without deadheading. Lobelia may temporality stop blooming if the night temperature remains above 70 degrees for an extended time. Give the plant a trim to encourage a flush of new growth and more blossoms after the nighttime temperatures drop. Lobelia can also be trimmed to keep its size in check. Apply a balanced fertilizer or compost to your flower beds annually for best plant performance and flower production. Fertilize container-grown plants monthly or as directed on the package.
This plant is typically grown as an annual, but it is hardy in zones 9 to 11. It may survive indoors as a houseplant in full sun conditions.
Laguna Dark Blue Lobelia Spacing
Space individual plants 6 to 10 inches apart, center on center, in your garden. They may be spaced 3 to 4 inches apart from each other and other plants in a container. The blue flower color looks great when paired with bright colors or pastels.
