Bottlebrush is a shrub that is already beloved for its magnificent fall colors, but Legend of the Fall outdoes itself with its autumnal show. The “best in show” of all bottlebrushes, Legend of the Fall features leaves that blaze vibrant red as fall settles in. Legend of the Fall Bottlebrush looks beautiful in the spring and summer, too. Sweet-smelling white flowers bloom in the spring, showing off the bottlebrush blooms that give the shrub its name. In the summer, this hardy native shrub looks green and lush in a variety of garden locations.
Bottlebrush is native to North America and is both shade tolerant and deer resistant. It is often used in shady gardens under or around large trees, because it proves much more tolerant of shade than other shrub varieties. It is a lovely addition to sunny gardens, as well. The informal charm of the bottlebrush is the perfect addition to wildflower gardens, native plantings, and wildlife gardens. It is a medium-sized shrub that also looks lovely when used for a hedge or border.
Legend Of The Fall® Bottlebrush Care
Bottlebrush are typically very easy to care for and require very little maintenance to keep them thriving in the garden. It prefers average soil and average moisture. They thrive in a variety of climates in Zones 5-9. While it is very shade tolerant, it performs best with four hours or more of sunlight per day. When planted in deep shade, the fall colors will not be as brilliant and the flowers won’t be as prolific as it would be with more sunlight.
Bottlebrush does not need to be pruned regularly. In fact, you may want to avoid trimming and pruning altogether, as regular pruning can affect its natural growth habit. Removing a branch here or there if it is damaged or seems out of place won’t harm the plant.
Legend Of The Fall® Bottlebrush Spacing
Legend of the Fall Bottlebrush can grow up to 60” tall and wide at maturity. It is a medium-sized shrub that will need 48-60” of space from other plants. Plant them closer together to form a hedge, and further apart when you are setting it apart as a specific plant.
