Feature
Want to add some dramatic color to your home or office with minimal fuss? Lipstick Echeveria, a petite succulent, native to Mexico, is definitely up to the task. With its triangular, green leaves, each one etched in scarlet, and its charming rosette form, this striking cactus adores bright sunshine and well-draining, acidic soil. Producing attractive, red blooms during the spring and summer, this evergreen will add a tasteful splash of color to any room or office. And, if you have a rock garden? Lipstick Echeveria will be your new rock star!
Best Locations For Growing Lipstick Echeveria
Lipstick Echeveria will do well in any room or office that gets lots of bright, direct and indirect light; however, the strongest bouts of sunshine can give this evergreen a bit of a sunburn, so make sure that you move this house plant a few feet away from intense sunlight. While Lipstick Echeveria can endure humidity up to 50%, this plant thrives in drier locations, so avoid placing this cactus in a bathroom. Lipstick Echeveria is nontoxic to people and pets and can be placed in your room choice at home or work.
Lipstick Echeveria Sunlight Requirements
Lipstick Echeveria prefers six hours of bright direct or indirect light in order to maintain its attractive form and gorgeous colors. As a result, south-facing or east-facing windows are ideal.
Lipstick Echeveria Care
Due to its small size, Lipstick Echeveria does not need frequent pruning. Occasionally trimming dead leaves to support new growth and avoid disease will suffice. If you choose to prune this cactus to encourage bushier growth, do so at the onset of the growing season.
This succulent’s low-maintenance regimen also includes minimal repotting. Simply repot when the roots have outgrown the current pot. Repotting should occur during the onset of the growing season, and the new pot should be one to two inches larger than the old pot.
Finally, since Lipstick Echeveria adores acidic, well-draining soil, an indoor potting soil amended with peat moss and perlite should provide a delightful habitat for this new succulent addition to your home or office.
Watering Lipstick Echeveria
While Lipstick Echeveria requires little fuss, this succulent is sensitive to overwatering and underwatering. As a result, conducting moisture checks before watering is key. Insert your finger one to two inches beneath the surface of the soil. If the soil is dry, then water. If not, wait a few days to do another moisture check. This house plant will normally need to be watered once or twice per week during active growth, and only once per month during the winter.
Feeding Lipstick Echeveria
A slow-growing cactus, Lipstick Echeveria, can survive in soil depleted of nutrients. As a result, this evergreen perennial is sensitive to overfeeding. The only time it may be necessary to add a little fertilizer to this houseplant’s soil is during the blooming season when this succulent needs more minerals to help it produce flowers. Using a low-nitrogen fertilizer during this period will help Lipstick Echeveria yield more vibrant blooms.
