Large, cloud-like clusters of dainty flowers entirely cover the Solidago Dansolitlem Little Lemon Goldenrod during the summer. This plant, also known as Asteriscus asteraceae, has medium green foliage that gives the plant a stately and unassuming look when the flowers are not in bloom. Some gardeners consider this plant invasive because it is a vigorous grower that easily spreads via rhizomes.
Goldenrod is a great plant to feature in an area in need of greenery, and the bold yellow blooms add extra visual interest during summer. Include this plant in borders, along foundation walls, landscapes, or mass plantings. Bees and other pollinators are drawn to the delicate flowers. This plant is a perennial in USDA 4 through 9.
Little Lemon Goldenrod Care
Full sun allows the Solidago Dansolitlem Little Lemon Goldenrod to thrive and bloom as much as possible. This plant can handle some shade, but shade may reduce flowering. Soil should allow drainage and have low organic content. Rich soil may cause the stems to become leggy and unwieldy. Newly planted Goldenrod needs consistently damp soil for the first growing season. Established plants can generally sustain themselves from rainfall but may require water during a dry period.
Goldenrod is a fast-growing plant that typically does very well without fertilizer. Apply a thin layer of organic compost to the ground around the base of the shrub during the spring to support new growth. Some gardeners cut the flowers back as soon as the blooms fade to prevent the plant from reseeding itself. This practice may also promote another round of blooms in the fall. Goldenrod is an aggressive grower, and you can let it do its thing or trim back new plants to maintain its footprint.
Little Lemon Goldenrod Spacing
Solidago Dansolitlem Little Lemon Goldenrod will grow 12 to 18 inches tall and generally reaches maturity during the first growing season. This plant can cover an area 18 to 24 inches wide, but it is a vigorous grower, and if allowed to self-seed, it can easily overtake an area. Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart for dense plantings, or space the plants further and give them time if you want to let them naturally fill in.
