A medium height flowering shrub in most climates, lantana sports dozens of miniature bouquets of flowers that remind you of a verbena. Bright yellow flowers held above green oblong leaves shine in the sun that they crave. Want a plant that you can literally plant, water a couple times to establish and then just enjoy from spring to summer? Luscious Bananarama is the plant for you!
This heat and drought tolerant mounding annual adds a medium size feature to your landscape, makes an awesome border, thrives in hanging baskets and containers and looks wonderful when massed out together, their lemon flowers glowing in the sunshine.Hardy in Zones 9a to 11b where they can be year round bloomers, this frost susceptible annual in Zones 3-8 will start to grow when temperatures warm up in the spring. Water well to establish then leave them to do their thing.
Luscious Bananarama Lantana Care
Companion planting in containers can consist of trailing annuals, alyssum, ageratum, miniature petunias, and other sun-loving annuals. Compost lightly if necessary, use pine needle mulch to keep soil slightly acidic, trim if you want to, but this is truly a low maintenance annual for your landscape or garden. Lantana is not usually bothered by many pests, but watch for powdery mildew if the planting does not get enough sun.Lantana is labelled as possibly toxic to pets, so place in areas they cannot reach to give you peace of mind for your four legged friends.
Deadheading is not required, nor is pruning and it is tolerant of average well draining soil and average rainfall, doing best in slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.8 to 6.2. However, If the plant starts to set seeds early and flowering slows, deadheading branch tips re-invigorate flowering and you’ll be rewarded with copious blooms once again.
Luscious Bananarama Lantana Spacing
Topping out in most climates at about 18 to 30 inches high and 30 inches wide, giving these lookers an 18 to 24 inch spacing will allow them to fill in and create a dramatic border or companion planting.
