No other plant is as cheerful and inviting as the humble Pansy. The Blue and White Blotch Majestic Giants Pansy is a sight to behold early in the spring just as the snow has melted and the garden is waking up. The flowers reach up to 4 inches across, while the delightful deep indigo markings stand out in any container. The dark green foliage is long-lasting after this Pansy decides to stop blooming for the summer. Even though Viola x wittrockiana is often thought of as a hardy annual for the spring and fall months, Majestic Giants are wonderful perennials in USDA zones 6-8b and often self-seed in cold zones.
Plant Pansies early in the spring to add color and contrast. The purple-blue color of Blue White Blotch is a great contrast to the many yellow and pink colors of spring bulbs and flowering shrubs. Use Pansies as a temporary ground cover for a garden bed full of broadleaved evergreens or early perennials such as bleeding hearts, peonies, and Siberian iris. Unlike many Pansies, Majestic Giants Pansies tolerate heat and stay in bloom far longer than other types of Pansies.
Majestic Giants Blue White Blotch Pansy Care
Pansies can be grown in either full sun or deep shade. The flowering is rarely affected by the amount of sun available. These plants appreciate moderately fertile garden soil with good drainage.
Pot Pansies using an all-purpose potting mix. Container-planted Pansies appreciate regular fertilizing and watering. Use a diluted liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks. Organic formulas with a higher P and K number will support heavy blooming and a healthy root system.
Like other seasonal blooming plants, deadheading is essential for keeping the plants compact and continually covered in flowers. Pinch off the flower and stem just above a set of leaves to keep the plants tidy and free from naked stems poking out. Shear the plant back when it has finished blooming in mid-summer. This pruning will allow healthy regrowth, so that your Pansy will be in full bloom once the cooler weather of fall returns.
Majestic Giants Blue White Blotch Pansy Spacing
Pansies are medium-sized bedding plants that can be planted quite close for a lush effect in either a landscape or a container. The overall height and spread for Majestic Giants Blue White Blotch Pansy is 8-10 inches. Space plants 8 inches apart in a garden bed or even closer with other plants in a planter or hanging basket.
