Whether gathered in a bouquet by itself or added to a bundle of lime-green chrysanthemums, the lush, double, tangerine blooms of Marmalade Skies™ Rose will boldly shine. It features clusters of rounded 3-inch blooms, each possessing anywhere from 18 to 24 soft petals, and lustrous emerald green foliage. This perennial shrub is otherwise known as Rosa Marmalade Skies™ ('Meimonblan'), Rosa 'Alpes', 'MEImonblan', and Rosa 'Tangerine Dream'. Reaching a maximum height and spread of 2 to 3 feet, Marmalade Skies™ works well in any landscape whether planted alone as a specimen or en masse in a border or low hedge. Yielding cut-flower quality floribunda blooms and foliage from spring to fall, this shrub’s beauty can be enjoyed both outside in the garden and inside wherever you so choose to display a bouquet of these beautiful blooms.
Cold hardy in zones 5-10, this All-American Rose Selections winner possesses a compact, bushy growth habit. A native of Asia and western Europe, this hybrid floribunda rose’s foliage is disease resistant. Attracting pollinators with its blooms’ gorgeous color and light fragrance, bees will be happily buzzing around your backyard all summer long. Marmalade Skies™ Rose is unfortunately appreciated by deer even more than the bees, so plant a few deer-resistant companion plants beside this award-winning rose bush such as bee balm, daisies, and lavender if deer are an issue.
Marmalade Skies™ Rose Care
Marmalade Skies™ Rose, a floribunda, needs at least six hours of full sun to thrive. Plant this shrub in a hole twice as wide as its root ball and almost as deep in loamy, slightly acidic (pH 6.5 to 7.0), well-drained soil. If necessary, amend the top soil with peat moss/coco coir to improve the soil’s drainage. Provide this attractive perennial with at least 1 to 2 inches of water weekly. Prior to watering, however, first, check the top 1 to 3 inches to see if they are dry. To promote growth and encourage blooming, feed this award winner monthly during its growing season from spring until summer.
During late winter / early spring, lightly prune this perennial. To encourage growth and prevent disease in a young plant, trim any dead, damaged, or diseased canes. If this shrub is older, however, you may have to shear a few inches first. Deadhead spent flowers during the blooming season, and depending on what zone you live in, cover the rose crown with a few inches of soil/mulch in late fall to winterize.
Marmalade Skies™ Rose Spacing
Adding splashes of sunrises and sunsets to any landscape with its bounteous orange blooms, Marmalade Skies™ Rose is superb whether planted alone or in a low, flowering hedge. For mass planting, space plants 30 to 36 inches apart. It looks fabulous paired with golden sunflowers, burnt orange ranunculus, and royal purple statice. Also growing well in containers, this perennial’s bright blooms brighten up patios and porches.
