Planted for its foliage, the deep burgundy leaves, paired with its mounded habit makes it a perfect addition to any landscape. This dwarf thorn free Weigela is easy to maintain and resistant to deer. It also may produce a small amount of pink blooms in the spring.
The Midnight Wine Weigela is grown for its foliage. It has deep burgundy-purple colored leaves. In the spring, it may produce a small amount of bright pink flowers. This deciduous shrub has a garden height of ten to twelve inches and a spread of eighteen to twenty-four inches. It has a mounded habit and is resistant to deer. Use it in shrub borders, mass planting, as a focal point, and as a border plant. You can use this Weigela as a filler in container planting.
Midnight Wine Weigela Care
Maintenance for the Midnight Wine Weigela is extremely simple. This is a sun loving plant. Be sure to plant in full sun ensuring it receives 6 or more hours of sun a day. It prefers moist well drained soil. It is a very adaptable Weigela and will grow in all soil types. Water needs for this shrub are average. Slow release fertilizer should be applied in early spring. Little pruning is required and should be done so right after flowering.
