Phlox is a favorite North American native plant that is prized for its long bloom time in the summer. Opening Act Pink-a-Dot” is a lovely hybrid variety that features near-white flowers with a dazzling dark-pink central star. Opening Act Pink-a-Dot blooms earlier than other phlox and will bloom all through the summer, especially when deadheaded. Plus, the glossy green foliage is both mildew and disease resistant.
Phlox is a pollinator-friendly plant. Bees and butterflies will flock to the abundant blooms all summer long. Opening Act Pink-a-Dot is perfect for brightening up a border, mixing with native grasses, planting en masse, and mingling with other colorful flowers.
Opening Act Pink-a-Dot Phlox Care
Phlox do not like hot, humid conditions, so they are best for climates with dry summers or sites with good circulation. While phlox will grow in part-sun, it thrives in full sun conditions. Plant in rich, well-draining soil. Keep the soil consistently moist and fertilize every other month for best performance.
Deadhead to prolong blooming. Prune back in early spring. Phlox will slowly spread through stolons, so pull up any new plants you don’t want in spring, or transplant to another location. Thin out mature plants to encourage air circulation.
Opening Act Pink-a-Dot Phlox Spacing
This hybrid phlox is a vigorous grower and slow spreader. Give it 30-36” of space in the garden.
