Add a dazzling display to your outdoor space with the Paula Fay Peony. This herbaceous perennial boasts semi-double flowers with vibrant, bright pink petals and golden yellow stamens. This beauty blooms from late spring through early summer. The blooms of the Paeonia lactiflora Paula Fay make wonderful cut flowers with a long vase life and can last for up to a week if cut in full bud. The glossy, dark green foliage stays in place after the blooms die back, ensuring the shrub continues to be an excellent addition to a yard or landscape.
Grow the Paula Fay Peony in borders, beds, or mass plantings. The beautiful blooms make this plant a stunning specimen planting. The flowers attract butterflies, but the plant is generally deer and rabbit resistant for added convenience. The shrub has a bushy, lush mounded growth habit and grows as a perennial in USDA growing zones 4 through 8.
Paula Fay Peony Care
The Paula Fay Peony prefers moist but well-draining neutral soil with high organic content. Plant in full sun, although the plant will do just fine with some afternoon shade. Peonies have average water needs, so give the plant a drink when the top few inches of soil dry out. Feed the plant in the spring using a 10-20-20 fertilizer.
While this plant has strong stems, the large, showy blooms may be too much, so you may want to stake the plant to keep the flowers upright and on full display. Deadhead spent blooms to keep the plant looking tidy. This cultivar is a herbaceous peony, so the entire plant will die back in the fall when the weather turns cold. Remove the dead growth and cover the roots with mulch to protect against winter weather.
Paula Fay Peony Spacing
Peonies are upright, shrub-like plants, and the Paula Fay Peony will reach 24 to 30 inches tall and spread 18 to 20 inches wide. Space this plant 20 to 22 inches away from other plants to ensure good airflow between the plants.
