It’s new, and it’s perfectly named -- Perfecto Double Dark Pink Azalea is a reblooming shrub that will give the landscape bright pink color more than once! Like other rhododendrons, this pink beauty bursts forth with blooms each spring, but then, after a brief rest, it blooms again in mid-summer and keeps going until cold frost hits in fall. Each of the big, saturated pink blooms last longer than those of many shrubs, too.
With its long blooming season, mature size of about 3 feet tall by 4 feet wide, and large blooms, this azalea can take a featured role in almost any area of the garden. Use several as a border to a driveway or patio, or to edge a garden bed. Plant a group for a pink explosion or a single azalea as a featured thriller plant near a home or in a large container. Just be sure to find a spot (or several) for this innovative and award-winning azalea.
Perfecto Mundo® Double Dark Pink Azalea Care
Plant Perfecto Mundo in full or partial sun, so that it gets about 4 to 6 hours of sunlight each day. It is hardy to zone 6B, so be sure to give it protection in cooler zones. Choose acidic soil that drains well. If the soil tends to retain water, place your azalea so the root ball is slightly above ground level. Applying a thick layer of organic mulch can help maintain the temperature of the soil to protect the plant from high heat or cold nights.
Water the azalea regularly, but not if the soil is saturated. If you like, fertilize your azalea in early spring, just as you see new growth emerging on the shrub. Feed the plant again after it finishes blooming in spring to help provide energy for its midsummer rebloom. A rose fertilizer works best for azaleas. Since blooms appear on both old wood (from the previous season) and new wood (new growth), trim or prune the plant for shape right after the spring blooming period ends.
Perfecto Mundo® Double Dark Pink Azalea Spacing
This shrub needs some air and plenty of room to grow, so be sure to space plants at least 36 inches apart from center to center and up to 48 inches apart, depending on the effect you want.
