Pink a Blue Lungwort is an interesting name, but this Pulmonaria hybrid is an interesting plant, so it fits. Dainty, bell-shaped flowers open during the late spring. The flowers are pink to start and transition to blue with time. The nodding flowers bloom in clusters at the ends of upright stems. While the flowers are lovely, the foliage of the Pink a Blue Lungwort also puts on a show. The deep green foliage is dappled with specks of silver. The stunning foliage stays in place for the rest of the season, even after the flowers fade.
This beauty has a mounded, upright growth habit. Bees and hummingbirds enjoy the flowers, but deer and rabbits tend to leave this plant alone. The Pink a Blue Lungwort can be featured in a border, mixed bed, container, or window box. Create a stunning mass planting and trim the flowers to display in arrangements. The Pink a Blue Lungwort is a perennial in zones 3 through 9.
Pink a Blue Lungwort Care
The Pink a Blue Lungwort needs part shade to shade, so choose a spot that receives no more than 4 hours of sunlight. An area that receives morning sun and afternoon shade is preferred. The soil should be neutral to alkaline and fertile. This plant is not a heavy feeder, and rich soil is enough to support continued growth. Lungwort plants prefer damp conditions, so water before the soil dries out, but avoid overwatering. Typically, watering once per week is sufficient.
Deadhead the plant to keep the Lungwort looking tidy. Monitor the leaves for signs of sunburn or powdery mildew. Divide the plant as it outgrows its space every few years.
Pink a Blue Lungwort Spacing
Pink a Blue Lungwort is a darling perennial that will reach 16 to 18 inches tall and 22 to 24 inches wide. Space plants 22 to 24 inches apart to create a dense planting.
