The Pink Champagne Barrenwort is a shade-loving plant that is easy to maintain and adds color and texture to a space. Also known as Epimedium, this plant features green, arrow-shaped foliage with purple spots for a unique burst of color. By May, flower stalks stand over the greenery and display white-winged flowers with pink cups.

This plant makes a wonderful groundcover and can be used along a slope or uneven ground. Plant Pink Champagne Barrenwort in beds or borders or use it in a container for more flexible placement options. This plant is an evergreen perennial, so it will retain its unique foliage all year. The Pink Champagne Barrenwort is a perennial in zones 5 through 9.

Pink Champagne Barrenwort Care

The Pink Champagne Barrenwort needs partial sun to full shade. Plant it in medium-moisture soil that is rich and well drained. This plant has average water needs and is drought tolerant once acclimated. A layer of organic mulch will keep the soil damp and boost the plant's nutrition. Feed Barrenwort plants with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring.

Cut back the foliage in the fall to encourage more vigorous growth in the spring. Propagate the Pink Champagne Barrenwort by division after the flowers fade or during the fall.

Pink Champagne Barrenwort Spacing

The Pink Champagne Barrenwort reaches 15 to 18 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. Space plants 18 - 24 inches apart when creating a mass planting.
