The Pink Flowering Wisteria is a type of Wisteria sinesis, and this stunner adds intense color and a sweet fragrance to an outdoor space. Dazzling pink flowers bloom in large clusters that drape from the vines. The flowers emerge in late spring, before the foliage, and often bloom all at once for a dramatic reveal. The flowers transition into velvety seed pods for additional texture and visual interest. The seed pods are offset by dark green pinnate foliage.
The twining vines of the Pink Flowering Wisteria look charming on a trellis, arbor, fence, or building. This plant is a vigorous grower and will engulf a structure, creating a fairytale atmosphere. The heavy vines need a sturdy support but avoid using trees or shrubs because the vigorous growth may girdle or kill other plants. The blooms have a sweet fragrance similar to lavender and honey, so feature this beauty near a walkway, outdoor space, or any area you routinely frequent to thoroughly enjoy these flowers. You won’t be the only one in love with the flowers because pollinators also drop by to enjoy the pink blooms.
Pink Flowering Wisteria Care
Plant Pink Flowering Wisteria in full or partial sun, but expect more prolific flower production in full sun. Provide fertile, moist soil that is well drained. Give new plants consistent water but established Wisterias only need water during a dry spell. Fertilize in the spring to prepare the plant for a successful growing season.
Prune Wisteria after the flowers fade to remove leggy growth and keep the plant tidy. A second pruning session in late winter or early spring will encourage more growth and a full form.
Pink Flowering Wisteria Spacing
The Pink Flowering Wisteria is a vining perennial that reaches 10 to 20 feet tall and 10 feet wide. The vines fill in quickly, so space plants 10 feet apart to create a continuous planting. Use a 16-inch pot when growing in a container.
