‘Purple Sprite Phlox’ makes you think of those wonderful creatures in a mythical forest! A low growing phlox smothered with bright, purple flowers. This new hybrid phlox blooms a week later than Phlox subulata, the groundcover phlox that everyone knows. ‘Purple Sprite’ is short, growing only 6-8 inches tall and 18-22 inches wide. For those that live in salt prone areas, this phlox is salt tolerant!
Phlox are native to North America and bees and butterflies love it! ‘Purple Sprite’ is a late spring bloomer and is hardy from Zone 3a- 8b. This is a great plant to fill that blank space in the garden or use in a pollinator garden for it is sure to attract pollinators with that bright color. And even after the flowers fade, the bright, green foliage is always attractive in the garden.
Purple Sprite Phlox Care
‘Purple Sprite’ tolerates partial shade but blooms best in full sun. While water needs are just average, it does require an average but well-draining soil. It also helps if the soil is acidic to neutral. This phlox is very low maintenance once established.
Purple Sprite Phlox Spacing
This would be an outstanding phlox planted en masse in the landscape, sure to stop traffic and have onlookers oooooh and aahhh. It can also be used as a border in the garden, in perennial beds or just pop it in where late spring bulbs will bloom and can complement each other!
