This cute, showy spring bloomer is a great choice to add early dark purple and white color to your gardens. The blossoms are white with deep purple wide edges and a flush of yellow in the center. Plant this perennial in a location where you can enjoy the blossoms' sweet vanilla scent. Rebecca violet does not spread like wild violets tend to do.
At maturity, Viola odorata 'Rebecca' will reach 8 to 10 inches in height with a spread of 6 to 12 inches in a compact mounding form. They have a flush of flowers in the spring but will occasionally blossom through frost without deadheading. Add Rebecca Violet to a border garden, containers, woodland gardens, under trees and along pathways, decks or patios.
Rebecca Violet Care
Grow Rebecca Violet in partial shade conditions in USDA planting zones 3 to 8. Trim it back after its blossoming period ends to encourage reblooming. This perennial attracts butterflies, is deer resistant and is a good choice for adding to small bouquets. Violets prefer growing in moist, shady, cool environments. These plants enjoy sunshine during spring but prefer shade in the summer after adjacent trees and shrubs leaf out.
Rebecca Violet Spacing
Space individual plants 6 to 8 inches apart, center on center. These can also be grown in small garden planters in the right location.
