Add a touch of timeless, elegant charm to the landscape with the Scepter’d Isle Rose. The strongly fragrant blooms of this rose feature soft pink petals that surround brilliant yellow stamens. It is a vigorous, repeat-blooming selection. The Scepter’d Isle Rose is named after a description of England in Shakespeare’s Richard II, and it certainly fits this rose, with its classic English appearance and fragrance.
This award-winning rose has a bushy, upright form that makes it an excellent option for a rose border or hedge. Plant perennials like salvia or lavender with their cool blue flowers in front of this rose to create a stunning display. Utilize the Scepter’d Isle Rose in a location where its scent can be enjoyed regularly. It offers excellent disease resistance.
Scepter’d Isle Rose Care
Position the Scepter’d Isle where it will receive full sunlight. The ideal soil for this shrub is slightly acidic, rich, fertile, and moist but well drained. Work ample compost into the site at planting if the soil is poor or has a high clay content. Like other roses, an annual springtime application of a slow-release fertilizer or well-rotted manure around the root zone will encourage plant vigor. Water the rose deeply about twice per week during extended dry spells or whenever the top 2 inches of soil feel dry.
Snip off spent flowers as they fade throughout the blooming season to encourage repeat blooms. In late winter, perform an annual pruning to remove up to one-third of the shrub’s canes. During this process, thin out older canes and remove any dead, weak, or spindly canes.
Scepter’d Isle Rose Spacing
The Scepter’d Isle rose has a height of 4 to 5 feet and a spread of just 2 to 3 feet, giving it an upright and fairly narrow form. Position multiples of these roses 3 feet apart to use them as a hedge but leave more space around plants used as standalone specimens.
