Shadowland® Above the Clouds Hosta features rounded, greenish-blue leaves with crinkled surfaces and lavender florets. This large hosta, otherwise known as Hosta Shadowland® 'Above the Clouds' PP34341, grows to a maximum height of 2 to 3 feet and spread of 4 to 5 feet. Bred by Proven Winners, this herbaceous perennial grows well in borders, beds, and containers. In addition to providing interest with its dramatic foliage and attractive flowers, this shade-loving plant attracts many pollinators including hummingbirds. With Shadowland® Above the Clouds Hosta, you no longer need to look above the clouds to find your field of calming blue; instead, you can just look down at this perennial’s unique blue foliage and feel the peace as you walk by your garden every day.
Shadowland® Above the Clouds Hosta is relatively disease resistant. It is not deer resistant so pair it with deer-resistant plants such as bleeding heart, columbine, and ferns if deer are a problem in your area. This large hosta, originating from Asia, is deciduous and grows with a mounding habit. Low maintenance, this plant is the perfect choice for any gardener yearning to add color and texture to shadier parts of a landscape.
Shadowland® Above the Clouds Hosta Care
While Shadowland® Above the Clouds Hosta tolerates some sun, it thrives in full shade. Choose a spot that gets less than 4 hours of direct sun and has loamy, acidic, well-draining soil. Amend the soil with peat moss/coco coir or compost if you have poor, compact soil. Plant this hosta in March or September. Provide this blue hosta with one inch of water per week, and check for moisture prior to watering. Feed this lovely perennial a balanced (10-10-10) fertilizer annually during the spring at half the recommended strength.
Trim any diseased, dead, or damaged leaves throughout spring until fall. In fall after the first frost, cut back the dead leaves.
Shadowland® Above the Clouds Hosta Spacing
Plant Shadowland® Above the Clouds Hosta in beds and borders with other shade-loving plants such as coral bells, ferns, and hydrangeas. Space plants about 5 feet apart. When grown in containers in a thriller-spiller-filler combination, this large hosta is a superb filler plant.
