The Solenia® Yellow Rieger Begonia or Begonia x hiemalis is a showy annual with lovely flowers. This Begonia is a continuous bloomer and flowers from spring through fall. The large double blooms are a sunny shade of yellow. The flowers steal the show, but the blooms are complemented by glossy green foliage with serrated edges.
Feature this prolific bloomer in a border or mixed bed. The mounded growth habit and bright blooms make this Begonia a thriller in a container. The Solenia® Yellow Rieger Begonia is tolerant of humidity and mildew, so it can grow in areas with intense summer weather and still look amazing. Bees and butterflies are drawn to the flowers.
Solenia® Yellow Rieger Begonia Care
Plant in moist, well-drained soil in sun or shade. Give the plant a moist, well-drained, and fertile soil. Water when the top inch of the potting mix is dry, and always water the soil, keeping the foliage dry when possible. Container-grown plants will need water more often than those in the ground. Fertilize every four weeks to support continuous blooming.
Deadheading isn’t necessary, but removing spent flowers keeps the plant tidy. Cut back growth in the fall and relocate the plant indoors for the winter.
Solenia® Yellow Rieger Begonia Spacing
The Solenia® Yellow Rieger Begonia stands 8 to 12 inches tall and wide. Space plants 8 to 12 inches apart in a bed or feature three plants in a 12-inch container.
