Sonic Bloom® Punch Weigela

The vivid punch-pink flowers of the Sonic Bloom® Punch Weigela make a big impact when they bloom in spring. This Weigela florida also reblooms over the summer and into the fall. Bright green foliage with a tinge of bronze provides interest in between flowering. With a compact habit and height of around 2.5 to 4 feet tall, you will want to find space for the Sonic Bloom® Punch Weigela.

This weigela is deer tolerant and ideal for rural landscapes. The blooms are not only attractive to us, but also to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The Sonic Bloom® Punch Weigela is considered low maintenance and winter hardy in zones 4 to 8. It is perfect for the middle of a border, whether on its own or in a group, or for growing in a large container. 

Sonic Bloom® Punch Weigela Care

Full sun is needed for this shrub to thrive and put on the best floral display. It can tolerate most soil types as long substrate is moist and free draining. Water deeply and often until established. Once mature, this weigela typically is sustained on rainfall alone except during hot dry spells. Applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring will help support flowering and maintain health. 

Minimal pruning is needed to look after the Sonic Bloom® Punch Weigela. Lightly trim after the spring blooms fade and remove dead material as needed. Mulching annually in spring will help lock in moisture over the hotter months. 

Sonic Bloom® Punch Weigela Spacing

When mature, the Sonic Bloom® Punch Weigela can grow to 4 feet tall and wide. A spacing of 48 inches is about right to give this mounding shrub space to fill out over time.
