Get ready for a saccharin dose of vivid, firework-looking flowers! Sugar Buzz™ Rockin' Raspberry Bee Balm will knock you in the face with its vibrant, 2.5-inch, deep raspberry flowers that contrast dark green foliage. Flowering close to the fourth of July, these flowers resemble an exploding firework and attract tons of hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators. This well-branched, native cultivar of monarda is more compact and does not fall over like its native relative.
Sugar Buzz™ Rockin' Raspberry Bee Balm has an aromatic mint smell when the leaves are brushed or crushed. It is deer and rabbit resistant and was bred to be powdery mildew resistant. This smaller native cultivar is great for borders and edges and in containers or combos. The plant is low maintenance and easy to grow.
Sugar Buzz™ Rockin' Raspberry Bee Balm Care
Sugar Buzz™ Rockin' Raspberry Bee Balm prefers full sun and can tolerate light shade. The plant tolerates average soils and prefers moist, well-draining soil. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry. Provide the plant good air circulation to avoid powdery mildew. This bee balm does not require regular feeding but a small amount of all-purpose 10-10-10 fertilizer will benefit the plant as would a layer of compost at the time of planting.
Sugar Buzz™ Rockin' Raspberry Bee Balm does not require pruning. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong bloom time. The plant can be cut back to the ground after the first frost or left for winter interest and pollinator habitat. Cut back plants to the ground in late winter or early spring to make room for new growth. If planted in a container, Sugar Buzz™ Rockin' Raspberry Bee Balm will need more frequent watering than in the garden. When the top couple inches of soil dry out, water thoroughly in the morning at the base of the plant.
Sugar Buzz™ Rockin' Raspberry Bee Balm Spacing
Compact in size, Sugar Buzz™ Rockin' Raspberry Bee Balm will reach 20 - 24 inches high with a 16-20-inch spread. Space plants roughly 18-20 inches apart.
